Police seized a handgun and ammunition during a search of an address in Toxteth as part of international operation into encrypted phones.
Yesterday ( Tuesday) police seized an Austrian made Steyr handgun and bullets during a search of a property on Huskisson Street, in the Toxteth area.
Police said the recovery was a result of an investigation into the EncroChat phone network which is codenamed Operation Venetic.
The authorities have made over 100 arrests on Merseyside in relation to the hack of the encrypted phone network which was used by established criminals.
The hack has been seen as one of the most significant breakthroughs in the fight against organised crime.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers have today ( Tuesday) seized a handgun and bullets as part of an international operation into the use of encrypted phones by criminals.
"As part of Operation Venetic, a targeted search took place today in Huskisson Street, Toxteth where a firearm and ammunition have been recovered."
Senior officers welcomed the recovery of the semi-automatic handgun and ammunition.
Detective Inspector Lee Wilkinson said to the ECHO : “Every single weapon we take off the streets and out of the hands of criminals helps to make Merseyside safer.
“Operation Venetic has led to more than 100 arrests here in Merseyside and identified around 60,000 users of EncroChat worldwide all involved in coordinating and planning the supply and distribution of drugs and weapons, money laundering and other criminal activity often linked to organised crime.
“We will continue to work with law enforcement agencies across the world to disrupt the criminal activity of those involved, seize their weapons, drugs and ill-gotten cash, and protect our communities from harm”
