and Tyne Bridge to during a 'slow cycle' to protest against climate change.
There were delays around Newcastle Central Station and the Tyne Bridge as commuters made their way to work on Friday morning.
Hundreds of readers took to social media to share their views on the action.
One Facebook user said: "Yeah, brilliant idea from the 'cyclists' why not use the cycle lanes which have took away from the roads that have created congestion and more pollution.
"Unreal. And by doing a go slow you're creating more pollution! Thought that's what you're demonstrating against doh"
Another said: "Brilliant of them, creating more pollution because of holding cars up, but also the emergency services and also, the people who work for them too!! I hope it's not cost any lives!!! Absolute joke!!"
One woman said: "I’m all for people protesting for a good cause that they are passionate about, but (and same goes for London) why disrupt traffic for the public who are not the people you are protesting against?
"People in London have been congesting traffic instead of protesting outside parliament or 10 Downing Street. Let the working class go about their day."

People also took to Twitter saying: "With their plastic helmets, plastic water bottles, rubber tires, polyester clothing and lots of otter crude oil based things lol, if you're going to a climate warrior then get rid of your plastic and oil based s**t and do it properly."
But one supporter said: "Fully support this. Far too much attention is given to private cars and road building and not enough to sustainable transport and cheap and accessible buses and trains."
And one woman said it was a "necessary inconvenience", adding: "We've got to reduce carbon and we only have a tiny window of time left in which to do so. Watch David Attenborough on catch up 'Climate Change: The Facts"
One person asked why people were against the protest.
They said: "I presume it’s the climate change deniers, people are too bloody lazy to do anything to help the climate change situation, they’ll happily sit for hours in traffic alone in a car, driving for hours looking for parking when all the time they could car share, walk, cycle or catch public transport.
"At least these people are drawing attention to the situation."
And another said: "It is real news it's just somewhat in the future. Live drink and be merry for tomorrow we die."
