'Let the project begin' - Bristol City fans react to update over Nigel Pearson's future in BS3

Nigel Pearson is just the man for the job as Bristol City embark on a period of significant change both on the field, in the dugout and in the boardroom.

According to multiple reports, Pearson has agreed a three-year contract to extend his stay at Ashton Gate beyond this season and now be at the centre of what will be a considerable rebuild.

After establishing themselves as a dependable and solid top-10 Championship outfit under Lee Johnson, albeit falling short in their quest for a play-off place, standards have slipped this season with the Robins marooned in lower mid-table.

Having succeeded Dean Holden in February, although Pearson's record is modest - two wins in 12 matches - he's done, said and presented a coherent enough plan to persuade the Lansdown family he can lead the club up the table and eventually into the Premier League.

It's a project not dissimilar to the one undertaken with Leicester City in 2011, when Pearson led the Foxes to promotion in 2014 while changing the make-up of the first-team squad and overall culture.

He certainly has a big job on his hands in BS3 with 13 players out of contract at the end of June and a number of individuals under-performing plus question marks over the strength of leadership within the squad.

Certainly the reaction on social media from City fans indicates a mixture of celebration and relief that there is finally stability at the club following a tumultuous few months.

Owner Steve Lansdown must also address further uncertainty at boardroom level with CEO Mark Ashton departing for Ipswich on May 31 having taken up a position of significant influence since arriving at Ashton Gate in 2016.

On Tuesday, head of performance Andy Rolls left the club for a "new opportunity" in the wake of a horrendous injury crisis which has impacted both what Pearson and, before him, Holden could do on the field.
