Let’s talk about the Sydney Sweeney of it all

Sydney Sweeney is always a topic of conversation on the internet whether it be good or bad. Now, people are potentially outing her address because they wanted to prove something about an ad she did. Frankly, enough already.

Rumors swirled online after Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle ad that she is registered to vote under the Republican party in Florida. Famously, your registration doesn’t mean that’s what you voted for in an actual election. It only really matters when it comes to primary voting. Besides that, publicly, Sweeney has supported anti-MAGA causes such as women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and more.

Not to defend Sweeney and the ad or her potential voter registration but based on information that she, herself, has presented, we are to believe that she’s not on Donald Trump’s side. Whether or not that is true isn’t really our business right now because she publicly isn’t supporting him or encouraging her fanbase to do so.

You can think what you want about this situation but what I don’t really LOVE is that people think it is okay to just go ahead and post her address as a “gotcha” when it isn’t exactly surprising that Sweeney would, potentially, be registered as a Republican. She did have a party for her mother that had MAGA hats, it was a whole thing.

So even if she is a Republican who voted for Donald Trump, that’s information that we all sort of had. I am more interested in her public persona and if she isn’t encouraging people to vote for him/attack everyone’s rights as the MAGA party suggests people do, then I’m not as angry about the situation. But what I think is so weird about this whole thing is that people are using this potential truth as a gotcha…

Everyone’s obsession with Sydney Sweeney is weird!

Look, I love when a woman uses her public persona to make a buck. Sweeney selling her own “bath water” is kind of iconic of her because men will sexualize her no matter what she does. But the obsession has gotten even weirder than the typical men heavy breathing every time her name is brought up. People just want to hate her one way or another and will seek out reasons to do so.

If she really is registered as a Republican and voted for Trump, that’s disappointing but also if that’s what she wants to do with her vote then so be it. I won’t be buying her soap anyway but a lot of her work is important for the myriad of issues listed above. Like the movie about Christy Martin, a queer boxer who held the WBC female super welterweight title in 2009, that Sweeney is in.

I’d like to point out that men like Robert Downey Jr. have been reportedly, in the past, registered to vote with the Republican party but have joined together to campaign for people like Joe Biden. Your registration doesn’t define you and using it as a “see, knew I didn’t like them” moment just comes across as weird and counter productive!

I will say, Trump coming out on Sweeney’s side is something that I do think she needs to address because if she gives the “Thank you, President Trump” response, then this is all a different story but for now, let’s maybe not out someone’s address because of a jeans ad…
