Much mirth is made in BBC satire W1A of the corporation naming a meeting room after Frankie Howerd. But now Monkey hears the Beeb is actually renaming some of its meeting rooms at its BBC North headquarters. An internal email reveals that “Meeting Room on D3” will now be known as “Pudsey” after the yellow Children in Need bear, “Joubert on B6” becomes the much more snappily-titled “Peter Kosminsky” after the eminent Wolf Hall director and “Angelou on B6” becomes “Peter Bazalgette” in honour of Arts Council chair and former Big Brother producer Sir Peter Bazalgette. Meanwhile “Zen on B6” becomes the less zen “Stephen Merchant”, “Churchill on B6” interestingly becomes “Kate Adie” and “JK Rowling on B6” will magically transform into “Lenny Henry”. The Beeb explains that as some of the rooms are used for training, they wanted them to call them after people who were trained at the BBC such as Bazalgette and Kosminsky to inspire the next generation. They also said they wanted the rooms to reflect current projects which is why “Breathing Places on Q2” is being changed to the “Little Painting Challenge Room”. Bit of a mouthful Monkey reckons. The Beeb should have canvassed opinion about that one, boom tish!
