'Let's make it happen' - Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown issues run-in rallying cry after poor Easter weekend

Bristol City's owner has issued a rallying call after the Robins lost ground in the play-off race on a disappointing Easter weekend.

The Robins were held at home to lowly Reading on Good Friday before they were soundly beaten by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Easter Monday.

Following the consecutive poor results that have seen City fall out of the play-off places with just three games remaining, club owner Steve Lansdown made a rare foray onto social media to galvanise the fans ahead of the mammoth encounter with Derby County on Saturday.

In his first tweet since December 23 last year, the 66-year-old wrote: "Disappointed tonight me too but the way I see it is we had 46 games to play and there are 3 left to make this season special.

"Let’s make it happen. See you Saturday."

The Robins have slipped to eight in the table following defeats to Aston Villa and the Owls which sandwiched the draw with Reading.

Saturday's home game against play-off rivals Derby County is already being billed as the club's biggest game this season, and that is reflected in the owner's public rallying cry.

World famous data analyst predicts Championship finish - where Leeds United, Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Derby County and Aston Villa come

It seems his appeal for calm and support has been heeded, on social media at least.

One fan replied: "COYR! Best owner in the EFL Mr Lansdown we salute you."

Another said: "Still in our hands, and all to play for Steve! COYR"

Wayne Spirell wrote: "Let's pack the gate on Saturday and hope everyone is in fine voice, we need that 12th man against Derby!"

'We have to turn around our current form - we know it's possible and the players and fans have to believe'

Another Robin added: "We owe LJ and the players a great atmosphere for the amazing effort they’ve put in all season. Let’s give it our all - fans and players alike."

Realistically, City need to win their three remaining games against the Rams, Millwall and Hull City to make certain of sixth place, while they will hope results elsewhere go in their favour in the meantime.

Derby currently occupy the final play-off place, but face a tough run-in with games against Swansea and West Brom to follow their trip to Ashton Gate.

How things stand in the Championship playoff race for Bristol City, Derby County and Middlesbrough after Easter Monday drama

Middlesbrough have the simplest job on paper, with relegation strugglers Reading and Rotherham on the horizon - although Derby and Bristol City have a crucial game in hand on them.

Steve Lansdown joined Bristol City's board in 1996 before taking over as chairman in 2002. He stepped down in 2011 but remained the club's owner.
