Let’s have an honest conversation about Mitch Trubisky

There’s no way to sugarcoat it — Mitch Trubisky looked downright awful against the Green Bay Packers last Thursday night.

Tuning into the season opener, we expected to see the Trubisky that led the Chicago Bears on what should’ve been a game-winning drive in the playoffs. Instead, we got a Mitch Trubisky that looked like he didn’t know what he was doing on the field.

For the past two seasons, we’ve been using excuse after excuse to validate why Trubisky hasn’t flashed that superstar potential to be expected of a No. 2 overall selection.

But when do the excuses stop?

The answer is now.

To fairly evaluate Trubisky, you have to remove his Bears jersey. You have to examine him as the No. 2 overall selection in 2017, the first quarterback taken before the likes of reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson.

In the latest episode of the Chicago Shuffle podcast, we have an honest and fair conversation about Trubisky, where we discuss his struggles in Week 1, voice our concerns and explain what we need to see from him this season to prove that he’s the Bears’ franchise quarterback.

We also discuss why this season’s opener was more disappointing than last year’s, whether David Montgomery will see more carries in Week 2, Leonard Floyd’s potential breakout season and, of course, make our predictions for Bears-Broncos.

Enjoy!
