Looking back over the endless months of lockdown that we have endured, thank goodness we had block and delete buttons on social media - plus snooze on Facebook.
I think I would have gone crazy without them.
It really brought out the worst in people, who blatantly used these platforms to tell lies, and write bizarre statements - because they can.
They don’t realise how much harm they can do.
There is no real policing policy in place on these platforms, although the companies are trying.
Some posts are monstrous.
Here’s a great example - the anti-vaxx brigade.
They must have died and thought they had gone to heaven getting platforms to spout their unbelievable statements to a captivated audience during lockdown.
By the way, many of them are making a vast amount of money out of other people’s misery.
If you don’t know what I mean, you should watch on catch up on Channel 4 a programme called the Anti-Vax Conspiracy.
It was frightening.
It dealt with the international movement about coronavirus vaccination which has divided the nation.
The programme explored the reasons why.
It was fascinating, yet scary to watch.
And they made the point loud and clear - that some people are making a great deal of money.
It went deeper than just the coronavirus, it dealt with vaccinations in general.
After the programme, social media went crazy.
I’ve realised that there is no arguing or discussing with these blinkered people, they just want to indoctrinate others.
All I know is vaccinations are one of the safest and most effective health interventions for infectious diseases.
They have had a staggering impact on reducing the burden of infectious diseases worldwide.
We’ve almost forgotten about vaccines for polio, the flu, hepatitis A and B, measles, whooping cough, mumps, smallpox.
The list goes on.
We are told that there could be some side effects from some vaccines, but let me remind you, every tablet in the world will list possible side effects.
The sad thing for me, people who are hesitating about getting Covid-19 vaccine, don’t have to look hard to find negative rumours and theories that will fuel their fear.
That’s because the anti-vaccine groups and individuals are working overtime to promote frightening false theories.
One that always gets me, that they are trying to permanently alter your genetics.
My question, who are ‘they’?
So whats going to happen to the billions around the world who have had the vaccine?
Are they now all going to be controlled by a world order?
How stupid of me, I forgot, there are the shape-shifting lizards that control the world - that’s how bizarre some of the statements are.
In the meantime, we are trying to save the world, and vaccination seems to be the only answer.
One of my friend’s daughter said, with a very strong conviction: “You won’t get me putting anything alien into my body.”
She left, had her botox and fillers, and came home happy with a pair of lips that could stick on a window.
So to finish.. Here’s a few Covid-19 theories.
- It’s a Chinese hoax.
- There’s a microchip in each of the vaccines.
- You can stop Covid by having a hot bath.
How ridiculous do they all sound?
The conspiracy theories spread as fast as the virus.
There’s always been sceptics and questions around.
Throw into the mix the fact that we have been stuck indoors and glued to our screens, which have been full of misinformation on this new phenomena.
Sean O’Grady, associate editor of the Independent. said “This is what we do about the anti-vaxxers - no job, no entry, no NHS access.”
In my opinion that’s a little extreme.
I say “please consider others, let’s get the world back on track - have your vaccination”
