Let’s get behind Scotland and put our team back on the global stage where they belong

Scotland was a very different country the last time our national team qualified for a major football tournament.

In 1998, as we were preparing to play Brazil in the opening match of the World Cup in France, Tony Blair had only been in Downing Street for a year.

Google had just been founded and the first Scottish Parliament elections were still on the horizon.

Since then our national team has been responsible for a catalogue of disappointments stretching over two decades.

However, 22 years of hurt can be wiped out if we beat Serbia today and qualify for the Euros.

Playing Serbia away from home is a tough match, but there is no doubt Scotland can win.

Steve Clarke’s team is a mixture of resilience and flair, and our boys are perfectly capable of bringing home a result.

Timing is also on our side, as good news always comes in three instalments.

Last week Scots were overjoyed when lying demagogue Donald Trump got his jotters as US president.

News of a covid vaccine then gave us a second much-needed shot in the arm.

A win in Belgrade can be the third wheel.

Let’s get behind Scotland and put our team back where they belong.

Brave vaccine volunteers are making sure this pandemic will end

A vaccine needs volunteers, and community-minded Scots are stepping forward in droves.

Cammy Heggie is one of around 400 people in Glasgow who put themselves to the test ‘for the good of mankind’.

These are the people who are helping test a coronavirus vaccine which might just get us all out of this crisis.

Cammy is taking part in a trial for a drug company and was heartened by the positive news coming out of Pfizer this week.

He’s already had one shot and is due his second on Tuesday.

No side effects so far, and it didn’t stop him running 10k.

It is of course a difficult decision to test something with no idea what might happen.

The scientists and medics can’t do it alone. Brave people like Cammy are making sure this deadly pandemic will be beaten.
