Chema Rodriguez made his first Championship start as he replaced Tobias Figueiredo at the back to partner Joe Worrall.
Jack Robinson also missed out with Yuri Ribeiro dropping out to play left-back. Tiago Silva returned to the side, likely playing in from the left wing, and there was also a recall for Joao Carvalho to play off Lewis Grabban.
Fans have expressed scepticism at Carvalho playing from the left, if that happens.
