Mr Mustafic has spent six years in danger, in isolation and in fear. To imprison him when he is suffering from mental exhaustion is inhumane. The threat of returning him to his murderous enemies in Bosnia is to invite him to kill himself. The Home Office should grant Alija Mustafic - and any other vulnerable people so mistreated - refugee status.

Let him stay
Alija Mustafic, a 47-year-old Muslim man, has been on hunger strike in Colnbrook prison since May 13. His only "crime" was to have deserted the Bosnian army during the civil war. He had a nervous breakdown, went into hiding and over the past six years has sought refuge in Holland, Norway, Belgium, Finland, France, Sweden and Ireland. In February he fled to the UK, where he immediately applied for asylum.
