A lesbian couple have sparked a social media frenzy after offering their Instagram followers the chance to win a vial of donor sperm so they can have a baby.
Allie and Sam have teamed up with Fairfax Cryobank Sperm Bank to launch the unusual giveaway.
The LGBTQ+ influencers from Canada said to be in with a chance of winning entrants must follow them on Instagram and tag a friend in their post.
Announcing the competition they said: "Donor sperm giveaway."
It was posted to their Instagram account with the caption: "We are so, so excited to be partnering with [Fairfax Cryobank] to (hopefully!) help one of you grow your family!
"Winner will receive one vial of donor sperm from [Fairfax Cryobank] + free shipping, and will be announced and contacted via DM on August 20th.
"Contest open to residents of Canada + the US. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram."
Thousands of excited entrants have commented on the post or tagged friends so they can be entered in the competition.
One entrant commented: "Wow how frickin crazy! My gf and I decided we finally wanted to try for a baby and then I wake up to this!"
Another replied: "I’ve literally spent the last week dreaming of having a newborn so I’m taking this as a SIGN."
A woman thanked the couple, saying: : "This is amazing! My wife Allie and I are just starting the process. We have been looking at @fairfaxcryobank - this would be such a huge help!!!"
However some people said the competition was in poor taste.
One critic said: “Imagine telling a child that they came from an Instagram giveaway."
Another posted: “Are we all really existing [right now] or is this just someone’s hilarious fever dream?”
According to Fairfax Cryobank's website the price of a vial of sperm varies from $650 (£494) to $1,050 (£797).
