Les Jones Memorial relaunches as 5k event for 2020

Athletics NI has announced the re-launch of the annual Les Jones Memorial event.

Traditionally a 10k held in May, the popular race was initially postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event will now be a 5k race held on Saturday, October 3 at the Mary Peters Track.

Organisers have worked on a new look for the popular Les Jones Memorial event, which is held in memory of the late athlete, team manager and Athletics NI Chairman Les Jones who passed away in 1992.

The new 5k route will start on the Mary Peters Track and will take runners around a loop of the scenic Lagan Towpath, before finishing back at the Mary Peters Track.

Due to the social distancing requirements, entries will be limited to 300, and runners will be set off in waves.

Entries are now open, and all those who had entered the original 10k will be automatically entered into the new event.

The first 140 entries will receive a Les Jones Memorial t-shirt and all competitors will receive a race medal.

The details are now available on our website here:  https://athleticsni.org/Fixtures/Les-Jones-Memorial-5k

A new route map will be available soon.
