Les Hoey DreamMaker charity boss devastated after son's sudden death

A Scots charity boss, who has dedicated his life to helping sick children, is devastated after the sudden death of his son.

Les Hoey, 57, who runs the DreamMaker Foundation, is distraught after son Darren Hoey, 34, was found dead in Edinburgh on Sunday.

Heartbroken Les and his wife Maz said they have done 'nothing but cry' since they received the devastating news whilst holidaying in Spain.

The couple are flying home from from Ibiza today to be with their grief-stricken family in Wishaw.

Darren's death is not believed to be suspicious.

Father-of-three Les shared the sad news on his Facebook this morning.

He wrote: "Yesterday we lost our son Darren. His sister's Shelley and Donna lost their wee brother, his nieces Jai and Millie have lost their uncle, the same as Ollie.

"We are travelling home later.

"Please give us time to grieve as a family and please don't send flowers.

"We have done nothing but cry we need be strong for his aunts, uncles and cousins."

Les has been helping children with life-limiting illnesses since 1992 after his daughter Shelley was diagnosed with Leukaemia.

His charity, The Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation, which is run out of a base in Wishaw, became official in 2014.

Shelley survived and since then Les has worked tirelessly to help bring happiness to the lives of youngsters with life-limiting illnesses.

The charity vow to make dreams come true for sick kids and their siblings by arranging meets and greets with their favourite celebrities and taking them on fun trips to their desired places.

Les was awarded an MBE for services to charity in 2013.

After receiving the award, humble Les said: “This is a significant award and I am very appreciative.

"But as I have said many times before, the reason I do this is to put a smile on children’s faces. That is reward enough for me."
