Les Dennis confesses moment he knew he was too old for Amanda Holden

Les Dennis has spoken about the hilarious moment he knew Amanda Holden was too old for him.

Amanda was 24 when she married Les, who was 42 when they tied the knot.

Les, from Garston, married Amanda in 1995, with the pair splitting briefly in 2000 when Amanda's affair with Neil Morrisey was exposed.

The couple reunited despite the affair but things were strained and they went on to separate in 2002 before divorcing a year later.

Amanda, 48,  later alleged her now ex-husband cheated on her shortly before he entreated the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2002.

But rather than being upset about it, she has since admitted she felt “relieved” by Les, 65,  doing the dirty as she already wanted out of the marriage.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday in 2013, Amanda said: “Just before he was due to go into the CBB house, he confessed that he’d slept with someone I knew.

"I remember wondering how I should be feeling. Angry? Hurt? Betrayed? The truth is I felt none of them. Sadly, I felt relieved.

"His infidelity was to become my passport out.”

There was a well documented 17-year age gap between the pair and now Les has spoken about a hilarious moment that exposed the pair's difference in ages.

Speaking on Richard Herring's podcast - Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre podcasts - Les had the audience in fits of laughter.

Les said: "I'm in our house in Highgate and it was Grand National Day and the plumber was there to fix the washing machine and Amanda came running in and said 'we need to put a bet on'

"I said what? she said it's the Grand National, I said ok great and handed her £10 and she said 'oh we need to put more than that on' and I went ok £20.

"And the plumber went 'Kid's Eh'."

And fans loved the story, with many tweeting about how funny they found it.

One said: "Nothing has made me laugh more this year than this Les Dennis story about him and Amanda Holden."

Another said: "Tremendous Herring1967 podcast with LesDennis - absolutely lovely bloke & some great stories! Nearly spat my drink out at the “kids eh?” Grand National bet story!"

And a third said: "Legend. I will always respect the old fella for being able to convince Amanda Holden into marrying him."
