Leroy Sane transfer: Bayern Munich legend confident of deal after confirming talks

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has said he is "sure" Leroy Sane will be playing for the German club next season.

Sane has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga champions after struggling to cement his place in Man City's starting XI.

The 23-year-old joined City from Bayern's domestic rivals Schalke back in 2016, and could now be set for a return to Germany.

As reported in the Star , Matthaus revealed to Sky Sports that Bayern had been in discussions with Sane over a transfer, and is now confident of a deal being completed.

Matthaus said: "Yes, we are negotiating with this player.

"A player who, in my eyes, will enchant the Bayern fans next year is Leroy Sane. I am sure he will move to Munich."

Bayern are in the market for a winger, with both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery leaving the club this summer.

Sane is their primary target, who has failed to force his way into manager Pep Guardiola's first-team plans at the Etihad.

City paid £37 million for Sane's services three years ago, and could welcome the sale in order to for Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes.

Bayern president Uli Hoeness has already publicised his plans to take Sane to the club, in a move which Matthaus feels would be beneficial for all involved.

He added: "If Uli Hoeness publicly reveals that it makes an effort for the player, this lands in the vast majority of cases in Bavaria...It would be a win-win transfer for all parties."

Sane has made 45 appearances for City this season, but 16 of those have come as a substitute.

He has found himself behind Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva in the club's pecking order, and was left on the bench for the FA Cup final, playing just 17 minutes.
