Leroy Sane reveals David Alaba wish amid Man City transfer links

Leroy Sane has urged reported Manchester City target David Alaba not to leave Bayern Munich this summer, as he outlined the defender's qualities.

Sane, who left City to join Bayern last month, has spoken for the first time about his reasons for swapping Manchester for Munich, saying the long-term project at the Allianz Arena was more aligned to his own plans.

The winger's departure will not have come as a surprise to those at City, with Bayern chasing Sane's signature for around two years. At the Etihad, attention now turns to how to replace him.

While Alaba wouldn't be a direct replacement, City are in need of a new central defender, with some suggestions they are open to strengthening the left full-back area. It had been reported that City had tried to include Alaba or Kingsley Coman in the deal that took Sane to Germany.

But Sane has told SportBild that he hopes Alaba stays at Bayern, describing his new teammate as one of the best left-backs in world football.

“I really hope David stays," Sane said. "I would like to play with him. He is a good guy, a great footballer, and we like each other privately. David has proven that he is not only one of the world’s best left-backs, but also exceptional in the centre.”

Sane also opened up on how he has found his first weeks at Bayern, as he stated his intention to win the Champions League with his new club.

He continued: “I can feel [the excitement at Bayern]. The boys are hot and focused, they have big goals with the club.

“I think a lot can be achieved. I definitely see a realistic chance of winning the Champions League with Bayern.”
