Leroy Sane is not 'an absolute top player' and is 'overpriced', says former Bayern Munich manager

Bayern Munich transfer target Leroy Sane is yet to become an “absolutely top player” and is consequently “overpriced” by Manchester City, according to the Bundesliga champion’s former manager Jupp Heynckes.

Sane has long been a transfer target for Bayern but City are reportedly holding out for a substantial fee for the 24-year-old.

The Germany international came close to returning to his native country last summer, only for a move to fall through when he suffered an anterior cruciate knee injury.

“For me, he has not yet made a breakthrough to being an absolute top player,” Heynckes told Bild.

“I think this is a player at a crossroads. Will he keep working hard on himself, or will he remain just as an exceptional talent?

“He has to be ready to make the next big step. Because there is no use in flashing the talent from time to time. I also honestly tell you that I don’t consider the price justifiable.”
