Man City forward Leroy Sane has been substituted after just 10 minutes into the Community Shield final against Liverpool.
Sane started the match at Wembley despite constant speculation that he is set to join German champions Bayern Munich and had started brightly, hitting the side netting early on before City broke the deadlock.
Yet the German's day was over before the ten minute mark after he was fouled by Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and landed awkwardly.
Sane received treatment for a minute on the pitch before getting up to his feet. But the German was unable to continue and hobbled off the pitch.
City played with 10 men for a brief moment and in that time City took the lead.
Aleks Zinchenko's headed cross was superbly flicked on by David Silva and was then bundled home past a sprawling Alisson by Raheem Sterling, against his former club, to give the Blues the lead.
Gabriel Jesus then came on for Sane.
It is not yet known how serious Sane's injury is, but losing a key player to injury less than a week before the new season begins is never a great start.
The injury may also have an affect on any potential transfer to Bayern, if the Germans continue to pursue the winger.
