Leroy Sane explains how Pep Guardiola 'reprogrammed' him at Man City

Leroy Sane has praised his former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for reprogramming his tactical awareness as he prepares to make his Bayern Munich debut.

Sane played under Guardiola for four years at City, but his exit came in less than ideal circumstances following a season out injured, where the German winger informed the club he wouldn't be signing a new contract.

Sane didn't play for City after making his decision, and a deal was quickly agreed with Bayern Munich to take him to the Allianz Arena rather than run down his contract for another season in Manchester.

However, Sane has insisted that his time with Guardiola was a positive one, praising his former manager for improving his tactical game in both attack and defence.

He told German outlet Kicker: “In positional play, in the general perception of the entire game, in tactical behaviour both offensively and defensively - Guardiola downright reprogrammed me.

“It's the simple movements that make you think, 'Oh, never'. But when you implement them, you realise very quickly that Guardiola is right. What he advises helps a lot, it makes the game easier and faster. Tactics are the most important thing to him.”

Sane's new side will return for pre-season having completed an impressive treble which culminated in the Champions League last week, where the former City man will add more firepower to an attack that already includes Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Ivan Perisic and Thomas Muller.
