Toronto should be tough to beat in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF 2-Y-0 Maiden in Leopardstown tonight.
A son of Galileo, Toronto is a half-brother to high-class miler and successful stallion Canford Cliffs. And he was one of three Ballydoyle runners in a seven-furlong juvenile maiden five weeks ago.
Ridden by Wayne Lordan, he was “as green as grass” turning for home, took time to hit top gear in the straight but came home well to fill fifth spot, beaten seven and a half lengths.
Substantial improvement is expected tonight, when he steps up to a mile. And, with Emmet McNamara in the saddle, it should take a smart newcomer to beat him.
Aidan O’Brien also runs €260,000 purchase Arthur’s Kingdom (by Camelot) while Jessica Harrington relies on the Sea The Stars colt Hint Of Stars (cost 115,000 Guineas).
