Colin Keane could be set for a big afternoon at Leopardstown with his push for champion jockey honours at the track’s last flat meeting of 2019 looking like it could yield a treble.
The 2017 champion rider has a number of good chances and should land the day’s feature, the Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes, on Justifier.
This son of Free Eagle won a Listed level earlier in the season and has continued to hold his own in good company.
If he can cope with the soft ground and the step up to nine furlongs he should take plenty of beating.
Another standout ride for Keane is Mean Fomhair, trained by his father Gerry, in the seven furlongs handicap.
This filly won on heavy ground at Roscommon in early September and has since shown up well to fill the runner-up spot in two more handicaps.
This soft ground loving four-year-old looks to have everything in her favour and she could take beating.
Keane might also land the two-year-old colts maiden on Ebony Maw whose recent debut run was encouraging.
Galway’s three day October meeting gets underway this afternoon and there are a few interesting contests to look forward to.
In the two mile maiden hurdle Gordon Elliott’s Thatsy is taken to build on a second at this track a few weeks ago.
He probably got caught out by the lack of a recent run that day and should now do much better.
Latest Exhibition looks a dangerous opponent after showing lots of promise to win a Naas bumper last January.
In the opener it is hard to look past the Noel Meade-trained Dinard Rose who has been in such good form on the flat.
She is a tough and reliable sort who stays well and has the sort of qualities that should make her a decent juvenile hurdler.
