Re: "Airport rail pact 'needs fine-tuning'," (BP, March 20).
One thing that needs fine tuning is to segregate the alleged Black Leopard Chef from the company (Italian-Thai Development-ITD) he controls. Can CP find no other contractor? Why does the government continue to give contracts to ITD? These are financed by the taxes paid for by the public.
The directors of this company must have a very weak set of social and moral values. I hope socially responsible investors take note.

Mushroom injustice
The court has given tycoon Premchai Karnasuta 16 months in jail for poaching and weapons possession, but let him off the hook for the black leopard killing, while "Mr & Mrs Mushroom pickers" by comparison, stand accused of illegal log poaching and are asked to pay a 2.5-million-baht fine, plus jail time.
Premchai should have been caught with a bucket full of mushrooms instead.

Smart tree ideas
Re: "Councilman urges freer pot research," (BP, March 20).
An important aspect of the Farmers Council chairman's comments relates to the intelligent ideas for financing teak and other premium-product tree farming.
Smart tree farming involves leaving mature tree growth in place, to provide vital eco-system support, whilst initiating a programme for farming for the needs of premium wood manufacturing industries, such as hard wood furniture.
There is a huge export market for eco-friendly wood products. It will take years to implement, so start now.

No doctrines here
Re: "Litany of ignorance", (PostBag, March 20).
Felix Qui tries to make people think that either you follow a particular religious doctrine or you're an atheist.
As an agnostic I don't follow doctrines, I ask questions. If the atheists believe that nature just popped up out of nowhere, then why ridicule believers if they think God always existed?

Judging Islam
Re: "Atrocity reveals humanity's beauty and thorns", (Opinion, March 20).
There is one point I agree with Mr Zafar Bhatti on. One should not "judge Islam based on the acts of a minority": the admiringly pacifist Ahmadiyya. One should perhaps then judge Islam based on the acts of the majority. The Ahmadiyya, it turns out, are persecuted in all Islamic countries and their mosques are regularly attacked in Western countries by other Muslims -- and their members attacked and sometimes murdered. The West is where Ahmadiyya can freely believe their brand of Islam, are not persecuted, and can hold congresses.
Meanwhile, he and his caliph could perhaps refrain from judging the West based on the acts of a lunatic fringe.

Make over the slums
Re: "City gets coronation makeover", (BP, March 20).
This only happens for a royal or other important occasion. How about extending the "beautification" and "makeover" of Bangkok to other areas of the city, the slum areas which are never visited, or that few know about?
