Leonardo DiCaprio paid tribute to actor Robert Redford at the London premiere of his new movie saying the film industry has "lost an absolute legend".
Redford died in his sleep aged 89 on Tuesday at his home in Utah.
Dicaprio, 50, spoke warmly of the Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid star as the capital hosted the UK premiere of One Battle After Another.
He said: "Very sad news, very sad day. We lost an absolute legend in our industry. I admire him for not only his work as an actor, but as a director with Quiz Show.
"We have a film tonight that we're premiering, that is a political thriller in a lot of ways, and he was the one that created the foundation for all that, with All The President's Men, Three Days Of The Condor.
"But more so than anything, I've said it over and over again, he was an avid environmental advocate, was a member of the NRDC (Natural Resources Defence Council) like me, and he was a hero to a lot of people in our industry, including myself, so it's a huge loss."
DiCcaprio’s hotly anticipated new film, which opens in cinemas nationwide on September 26, brought out a glittering line-up of talent for the London premiere.
Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor and rising newcomer Chase Infiniti all hit the red carpet for the film by writer, director and producer Paul Thomas Anderson.

Fans gathered in the West End to catch a glimpse of the stars as they posed for photographers and greeted crowds before heading inside for the screening.
One Battle After Another has been generating buzz since its announcement, with Anderson returning to the director’s chair after 2021’s critically acclaimed Licorice Pizza.
Known for crafting ambitious, character-driven dramas such as There Will Be Blood and Magnolia, the filmmaker is once again expected to deliver a compelling, awards-season contender.
The story is loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland. Anderson has described “stealing the parts that really resonated” with him — particularly the father-daughter dynamic — while creating an original screenplay rather than a straight adaptation. The result is a film that draws from the novel’s spirit but stands firmly on its own.
DiCaprio — who turned 50 last year —last appeared on screen in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, while Penn and del Toro bring decades of acclaimed performances between them.
For Taylor, who recently won praise for her role in A Thousand and One, the film marks another high-profile step in her acting career, while Infiniti makes their feature debut.
Speaking ahead of the premiere, Anderson said he was “thrilled to be unveiling the film in London,” adding that the city has always been “a second home for cinema.”
