Leonardo DiCaprio caused a stir dropping into COP26 after a 'commercial flight'

Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted causing quite a stir walking through COP26 which is being held in Glasgow after flying to the event on a commercial flight.

It seems that the star swapped a private jet for a commercial flight into Edinburgh before heading to Glasgow.

This comes after he was called a hypocrite when he reportedly flew 8,000 miles from France to New York and back to collect an award on climate change back in 2016.

The actor and environmentalist was recorded walking through the COP26 event where he attracted large crowds and had multiple cameras on him.

The star regularly posts on his social media mentioning the climate crisis and has urged leaders to 'take action' during this event.

Before the event began he tweeted: "I join @antonioguterres in urging leaders at #COP26 to take crucial #ClimateAction, safeguard our future, and save humanity. Now is the time for ambition, solidarity, and action. @UN"

Leonardo has been involved in climate and environmental activism for more than 20 years, having been outspoken environmental issues throughout most of his career.

He started The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 which gives money and grants to conservation projects to protect the Earth.

The venue shared a photo of the star to their Instagram account following his appearance.

He was stood alongside Emmy-nominated writer and producer Paul Goodenough who is also the founder of the charity organisation Rewriting Extinction.

In the photo Leonardo is holding a book called 'The Most Important Comic Book on Earth: Stories to Save the World' which is described as a 'global collaboration for planetary change, bringing together a diverse team of 300 leading environmentalists, artists, authors, actors, filmmakers, musicians, and more to present over 120 stories to save the world'.

It wasn't known that the actor would be making an appearance at COP26 apart from the fact he put '#COP26' in his Instagram bio.

There has been some controversy surrounding how the world leaders have travelled to and from the event with the US' president Joe Biden reportedly having an 85 car convoy as well as Prime Minister Boris Johnson possibly flying back to London once the conference is over.

Leonardo's most recent Instagram post is surrounding the announcement of a new 23,166-square-miles Marine Protected Area near the Galápagos, which was revealed at COP26.

He wrote: "Congratulations to Ecuadorian President @guillermolasso and Ecuador's Ministry of the Environment on the creation of a new 23,166-square-miles Marine Protected Area near the Galápagos, and the world's largest debt swap for nature to help manage it, announced today at #COP26."

Other Hollywood stars are expected to show their faces at the climate conference this week such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Matt Damon.

Singer Billie Eilish also said earlier this week in a recorded message: "This year our leaders are deciding the global actions required on the environment climate emergency in a critical decade for our planet.

"We must stand together and speak up to save our planet, not just for us, but for our future generations, and we need urgent, urgent action now and to work together as one."
