Juventus and Italy defender Leonardo Bonuncci has sent a warning to Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo should they meet in the World Cup play-off final as the war of words continues.
The pair enjoyed a successful stint together in Serie A at the Old Lady but since the 36-year-old's exit and subsequent return to Old Trafford, Bonucci is just one of the number of Juve players that has been vocal about Ronaldo's time in Turin.
Portugal suffered late disappointment in the last round of internationals as Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the winning goal to send Serbia through, leaving Fernando Santos' side to negotiate the play-offs in order to qualify for next November's World Cup.
The Euro 2020 winners finished two points behind Switzerland in their qualification group setting a potential tie-up, meaning the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could come face-to-face with a number of his former teammates in the other bracket of play-offs.
Italy's defence is well-known for being robust and firm in their style of play, something Ronaldo would have become accustomed to during his time in the Italian top-flight and his multiple skirmishes with the side's from the region during his career.
In the latest instalment of the squabble, Bonucci had some words for the United man should both Italy and Portugal overcome North Macedonia and Turkey, respectively.
"I heard Cristiano Ronaldo and we joked about the possible Portugal vs Italy match, we'll see what happens on the pitch, Cristiano knows he will suffer some blows," he told Rai Sport.
"We have to concentrate on what we will do on the pitch, then in March we will meet again and I am convinced that we will play two great matches."
