Defensive lineman Leonard Williams has signed his franchise tag tender with the Giants, likely securing his future with the franchise for the 2020 season.
Williams did so remotely Wednesday night because of a desire to participate in the Giants' virtual offseason program, two sources with knowledge of the situation told NorthJersey.com and USA TODAY Network.
One source did indicate that Williams plans to file a grievance over which tag he should receive. The Giants have tagged him as a defensive tackle, worth $16.1 million, and Williams will argue he should get the defensive tag worth 17.9 million.

The two sides have until July 15 to come to a long-term agreement on a new contract, and if they don't, Williams must play this season on the tag.
The Giants acquired Williams, the former No. 6 overall pick, from the Jets for a 2020 third-round pick (68th overall) and a 2021 fifth-round pick last October.
