Before the draft, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars were open to trading running back Leonard Fournette but the annual event has passed and he remains on the team. That could lead to him remaining on the roster for at least another year, but regardless as to where he plays, Fournette took to Twitter to let fans know that he’s going to give 2020 his all.
As many Jags fans are aware, Fournette has had his highs and lows with the Jags since being drafted in 2017. However, in 2019 it’s worth noting that he produced a career-high in yards with 1,152 and yards per carry with a 4.3 figure average. Unfortunately, he struggled to get in the end zone in the process, registering a career-low of three touchdowns.
There were teams who at least called about Fournette in the Tampa Bay Bucs and Miami Dolphins according to reports, but those teams ultimately decided to go in different directions. Baring a team comes in and offers picks for next year (which wouldn’t help the Jags immediately) or some type of player-for-player trade, it appears Fournette will probably be a Jag in 2020 and is fine with it.
The next big situation to watch with Fournette is whether the Jags will pick up his fifth-year option by the May 3 deadline. Due to their rocky relationship with him, that may be unlikely but it doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be a Jag past 2020 if he has a good season.
