Leona Peach: Police ramp up search for missing girl, 12, one week since disappearance

Police are ramping up the search for a missing 12-year-old girl one week after she disappeared.

Leona Peach was last seen on December 20 and never returned home, missing Christmas celebrations with her family.

Concern for the schoolgirl, from Newton Abbot, Devon, is continuing to grow as it has now been a full week since she was last seen.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it is ramping up the search for her.

Detective Inspector Dave Pebworth said: "Enquiries are continuing in our efforts to locate Leona.

"We are asking members of the public to help us.

"We are supporting her friends and family and are appealing to Leona to contact home so that they know that she is safe and well."

Leona was last seen in the Hele Park area of Newton Abbot around 9.15am (BPM MEDIA)

Leona was last seen in the Hele Park area around 9am last Monday and officers believe she may have travelled to Bideford, North Devon.

The schoolgirl is white and of slim to medium build, approximately 4ft 9ins tall, and has light-brown hair which reaches the middle of her back.

She is thought to be wearing a dark fur coat and flip-flops, and was carrying a pink bag.

Police are calling for her to get in touch with her worried family to confirm she is safe and help return her home.

DI Pebworth said: "This time of year is especially important for families and we are keen to make sure that she is okay.

"[We] would ask that anyone who is with her encourages Leona to contact her family in Newton Abbot.

"Leona if you are reading this, we want you to know you are not in any trouble. Please contact us, or someone you trust, to let us know you are safe."

Anyone who has spotted Leona, or has information on her whereabouts is urged to call police immediately on 999, quoting log number 0222 of 20/12/21.
