Leona Maguire secures major payday with top-2 finish at CME Group Championship

Leona Maguire secured a top-2 finish at the CME Group Tour Championships and took home a huge amount of money.

The $7 million purse on offer is one of the largest in the history of the LPGA Tour. And while it is some way shy of the $10 million given out at the US Open this year, the winning prize of $2 million has never been seen before in the women's game.

Lydia Ko took home the historic winnings as a result of a fine final round of 2-under par. Maguire carded level par and had to settle for second place - and a cheque of $550,000 (€531,630).

11 Pars in the next 13 holes with a single Birdie and Bogey to split up the stalemate left Maguire on 15-under par for the tournament.

But Ko kept her cool, Birdied two of the last three holes and took home the monster cheque for her efforts.
