Leona Maguire recovers from horror start to secure top 10 finish at Dana Open

Leona Maguire recovered from a horror start to secure a top ten finish at the Dana Open in Ohio on Sunday.

Maguire started the day with aspirations of making a charge at the title, but an opening double-bogey put the Cavan star immediately on the back foot.

Five pars in a row steadied the ship, before birdies at seven, eight and nine saw the 27-year-old make the turn in one under par for the day.

When the time came for a Sunday surge, Maguire just couldn't quite get out of second gear and started her back nine with three pars on the spin.

A birdie at 13 gave the one time LPGA Tour winner a chance, but a bogey at 15 stopped her charge right in its tracks. The world number 15 picked up another shot on the closing few holes, to sign off on a final round of 69.

Two under par for the day saw the Irishwoman finish in a tie for tenth on 13-under par for the tournament. Maguire finished five shots off eventual winner Gaby Lopez who finished on 18-under par, a single shot ahead of Megan Khang.
