Leon Pryce has confirmed he is not considering retiring at the end of this season, insisting that he still has plenty to offer either a new side or his current employers, Hull FC, as they continue their quest for success on Sunday.
The 34-year-old half-back is one of the Super League’s most successful players, but with his contract at Hull running down, Pryce appears to be facing an uncertain future. “I’ve definitely got another year left in me, without a doubt,” he said. “If I didn’t think I had then I wouldn’t be playing on next year, I’d be retiring.
“I’m not sure what I’m doing yet because there’s a long way to go with things. I’ve got a few options so we’ll see what transpires.”
A move back to his hometown club, Bradford, has long been tipped as Pryce’s next move and although he refused to comment directly on those rumours, he did concede it is close to his heart. He said: “I still live in Bradford and I’ve got a bond with the club. I’ve got a lot of friends there and it could be an option for me.”
Pryce’s immediate task is forcing his way back into the Hull side after spending the past couple of weeks on the sidelines as the Hull coach, Lee Radford, has preferred Carlos Tuimavave, but Pryce will look for a recall this on Sunday as Hull look to re-establish their two-point lead at the top by beating Castleford.
“I really do feel like I’ve still got a part to play with Hull FC this year,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed playing when I’ve been in the team and to be part of a group who are at the top of the league has been fantastic.
“To help a club like Hull achieve their potential and be part of that this year would be massive for me and something that really motivates me. It’d be nice to get another Grand Final ring or a Challenge Cup medal and to do it here at Hull would be special.”
