Leon Osman warns Everton of Jordan Pickford 'bunches' habit

Leon Osman believes Everton had their tactical approach 'ruined' by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford against Leicester City.

Everton were held to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park with James Rodriguez having his opener cancelled out by Youri Tielemans.

Pickford could not get down quick enough to keep out the effort and Osman reckons it cost his former club the three points.

He said: “I think Carlo Ancelotti will be the happier of the managers, because Leicester City really pushed his team tonight.

“They made them defend really well. Michael Keane, [Yerry] Mina and [Ben] Godfrey in particular were outstanding defensively for Everton.

“Brendan Rodgers will maybe feel his team did enough but the defensive solidity of Everton was only ruined by a mistake from Jordan Pickford.

“So from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, he’ll feel, if you take the mistake out of the game, his team might have come away with a victory.”

Osman added on Pickford: “He does have a tendency to make a mistake, and when he does he makes them in bunches."

“He gets in his own head it seems, he sort of needs to make it right instantly.”

Rachel Brown-Finnis - who won 83 caps for England as a goalkeeper - said the mistake was the result of Pickford not concentrating.

The former Everton Women shot-stopper added: “As a goalkeeper, whether you make a brilliant save and tip it over the bar for a corner, or you make a bad error, it has to go like that.

“Because the next second something is happening - a cross is coming in - and because he hadn’t done that and wasn’t focusing in that moment, that very second, he was out of position and led to a mistake, which led to a goal.”
