Leon King 'agrees' long-term Rangers deal as Michael Beale era handed major boost

Leon King is set to sign a new long-term deal at Rangers in a major boost to Michael Beale's new era at the club, according to a report.

The highly-regarded youngster has been thrown in the deep end this season due to the defensive injury crisis at Ibrox with key men such as Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Filip Helander long-term absentees while Ben Davies has also struggled for fitness. He's picked up huge experiences in the Champions League against the likes of Liverpool and Napoli and he will be hoping for even more exposure at the top level with a new deal 'agreed'.

Top transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has tweeted: "Important update for Rangers FC. Been told Leon King has agreed new contract valid until June 2026, here we go #RangersFC. Scottish top talented centre back is on the list of many top Premier League clubs — new deal in place, to be signed in the next days."

King made his debut as a 16-year-old back in 2020 and in recent months has become a key member of the top team with 19 appearances in all competitions to date. He was once again called upon against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend in a comfortable 3-0 win and is one who is likely to get the nod against Hibs on Thursday night - despite the news that Goldson and Davies could make it with training returns set for this week.

Speaking after Saturday's friednly win, he said: “I thought it was great to give the whole squad a run out back in front of the fans at Ibrox again, and it was a commanding victory as well.

“It’s been coming. We’ve been training with an intensity since the new manager has come in. It’s been amazing and I’m glad to be part of it. We want to keep clean sheets in every game that we play in and this is just the start.”

He added: “It’s amazing and the boys deserve it. They’ve been doing unbelievable in the Lowland League so it’s congratulations to Robbie [Fraser] for making his debut.

“I’m buzzing [to return to league action]. It’s been a while and obviously the last league game that I played, I took a knock so I don’t remember much about it. It will be good to get back out there and play league games in front of the fans again.
