Leon Edwards wants fight with ‘racist scumbag’ Colby Covington in December

Leon Edwards wants to get his hands on Colby Covington.

The British welterweight contender took to Twitter early Sunday to call out Covington after his win over former champion Tyron Woodley in the UFC on ESPN+ 36 main event in Las Vegas. Covington beat Woodley with a fifth-round TKO to bounce back from his title loss to champion Kamaru Usman this past December.

Edwards (18-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) wants to fight Covington before the year’s end.

“Don’t worry I’ll take out the racist scumbag, December,” Edwards posted. “Let’s see if @ColbyCovMMA joins the ‘I won’t fight Leon club’ and goes running like the rest of them. @ufc @UFCEurope.”

Edwards hasn’t fought since July 2019. The pandemic and its travel restrictions has been a hurdle for Edwards’ next UFC bout, but he’s also had a difficult time getting opponents with big names or high in the rankings.

Edwards is currently on an eight-fight winning streak and is ranked No. 3 in the UFC’s official 170-pound rankings. He’s considered one of the most skilled fighters in the weight class.
