Leon Britton is being strongly considered to become vice chairman at Swansea City.
The Liberty Stadium legend retired in May 2018 after representing the Welsh side in all four divisions and making 536 appearances along the way.
Former midfielder Britton – who also had a two-game spell as Swansea’s caretaker manager following Paul Clement’s sacking – has stayed on as a club ambassador.
Swansea saw long-serving chairman Huw Jenkins resign after 17 years in February and he was replaced by Trevor Birch.
And Britton now looks favourite to work alongside Birch moving forwards, although his exact duties and how his new role will work with his club ambassador position remain unclear at this stage.
The appointment is yet to be fully rubberstamped, but WalesOnline understands Britton is highly likely to take on the role.
It was announced last month that fellow Swansea legend Alan Curtis would be retiring from his role and moving upstairs to take up a new role as honorary club president.
And now he could well be followed by Britton, who fans will be hoping can have a positive impact alongside Birch, as the club continues to cut costs following last season’s Premier League relegation.
The 36-year-old made a stunning move to Welsh Premier League side Llanelli Town in January but a broken foot ended his playing comeback after only two games.
The news comes as Swansea battle to keep hold of manager Graham Potter amid interest from Brighton. You can read all the latest live updates on that, here.
The Seagulls have had an initial approach for Potter turned down and are yet to make a second approach for the former Ostersund boss.
