Leon Balogun suffers Rangers injury blow as landmark Nigeria showing cut short

Leon Balogun has suffered an injury scare in Nigeria's win over the Central African Republic.

The Rangers defender was enjoying an international redemption after his mistake cost them against the same opponent on Thursday.

He atoned for his error by firing in the opening goal as the Super Eagles cruised to a 2-0 win.

Victor Osimhen got the other goal in what was a comfortable win for Balogun 's side, which also featured Joe Aribo while Calvin Bassey was on the bench.

But the dream quickly turned into a nightmare when he went down with an apparent injury deep in the second half.

He required the attention of physios and was then substituted off for former Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo.

Steven Gerrard will be sweating about his fitness as Rangers face Hearts in a crucial top of the league clash in a week's time.

If Balogun is unavailable then Jack Simpson may start alongside Connor Goldson at the heart of the back four.

It's also a worry for the Europa League clash against Brondby on October 21 as Simpson is not in the Ibrox squad for Euro action while Filip Helander remains out and isn't expected back until December.

Goldson missed out for the clash against Sparta Prague at the end of last month and Bassey filled in for the 1-0 defeat.
