Leon Balogun refuses to say Celtic as Rangers defender reveals one player who 'just can't watch' rivals games

Defender Leon Balogun has offered behind the scenes insight into Rangers successful bid to wrestle the title away from Celtic.

The newly-crowned Premiership champions are on course for an unbeaten league season having claimed their first top flight title in a decade.

Having signed from Wigan last summer, Balogun told German outlet Bild that he was desperate to end Celtic 's dominance as soon as he arrived at the club.

Balogun said: "Of course, it's a huge incentive to win the league.

"Then taking on the challenge of stopping the others and making them too salty - that was just awesome."

When quizzed on why he refers to Celtic as 'the other', he continued: "I try to avoid pronouncing the club's name. I would rather say the one on the other side of town."

The centre-back also offered an insight into how the rivalry manifests behind the scenes, noting that an unnamed goalkeeper refuses to watch their rivals' games.

He continued: "It's different for everyone.

"For example, one of our goalkeepers never watches the other's games. He says he just can't do that."

Balogun, who is out of contract in the summer, also admitted he would love to remain at Ibrox beyond the summer if he can continue to impress Steven Gerrard.

The Nigeria cap added: "It's just a matter of form, I don't have to worry about that - I definitely want to stay."
