Leo Varadkar has shifted the blame for a tragic accident involving a homeless man onto Dublin City Council.
The man was moved while sleeping in his tent by the canal in Dublin and suffered life-changing injuries.
He is currently in a critical condition in St Vincent’s Hospital in South Dublin city.
The Taoiseach was asked about the accident at the Fine Gael election campaign launch at the Combilift factory in Monaghan.
Mr Varadkar seemed to get involved in some type of victim blaming when he said that “the man was offered accommodation previously.”
He also moved to distance the government from this blatant example of housing policy failure by saying that it was “the responsibility of Dublin City Council.”
He said: “The Lord Mayor should make a statement.”
Paul McAuliffe is the Dublin Lord Mayor and he is a Fianna Fáil councillor.
