Leo Varadkar sends message to Enda Kenny after latest RTE show episode

Leo Varadkar sent a message to Enda Kenny after the Mayo man's latest RTE show episode.

Kenny’s new Irish language TV series – Iarnrod Enda – sees him rediscovering Ireland’s abandoned railway routes.

The Tanaiste praised the former Taoiseach Kenny with a message written in Irish which translates to "another top class program from Enda in Mayo, his home county. The West is a beautiful place."

He posted the statement in Irish on Twitter:" Clár den scoth arís ó Enda i Maigh Eo, a chontae dhúcais. Is álainn an áit an Iarthar #IarnrodEnda "

RTE viewers were impressed by the 'stunning' scenery in Co Mayo shown in the programme.

One posted: "Never thought I’d be stanning a show about railways presented by Enda Kenny but here we are #IarnrodEnda."

Another said: "Stunning camerawork on #IarnrodEnda. I wonder are there plans to screen the show abroad?"

TD Josepha Madigan added: "My Dad was a proud Mayo man. He would have loved this episode of #iarnrodenda @EndaKennyTD."

Charlie Flanagan said: "Great chat ceol agus craic with Enda Kenny @rte revisiting the old Mayo coastal railway line now the Westport/Achill Greenway.

"Really interesting programme on the social & economic history of this beautiful area. #iarnrodenda."

It comes as Enda Kenny recently ruled himself out of any future race for the Aras.

The Fine Gael stalwart – who hosts is new RTE show – said he harbours no desire to become president. Kenny told Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy: “I’m very clear on that.

“I used to enjoy visiting President McAleese and President Higgins in Aras an Uachtaran because you had to go there and give them an update on events in the house.

“After my years in politics, there is always a life upfront and I always look forward onto the next horizon and it is not at Aras an Uachtaran.”

Viewers were also surprised at the former Taoiseach’s laid-back lockdown look.

The first episode, which is on RTE One tomorrow at 8.30pm, explores the route from Waterford to Dungarvan.
