Leo Varadkar says report from investigation into Maria Bailey 'swing-gate' will not be published

The Taoiseach has discussed the findings of the investigation into Maria Bailey’s “swing-gate” fiasco with the Fine Gael TD.

However, Leo Varadkar yesterday said the report would not be published as some of those who participated in it did not want to be identified.

Ms Bailey met with the Taoiseach on Thursday night after the probe by senior counsel David Kennedy was completed.

Mr Varadkar said: “I received the report only in the last couple of days.

“I met with David Kennedy and I met with Deputy Bailey so I intend to respond to it next week.

“In terms of publishing the report, it is not normal for a political party or even a media organisation or an employer to publish an internal report.

“I did consider making an exception in this regard but when I met with David Kennedy he pointed out he sought the co-operation of those who were interviewed on the basis it would not be published.

“He gave them that commitment in writing so I don’t feel I could possibly override that.”

A probe was launched by Fine Gael after Ms Bailey withdrew action against the Dean Hotel in Dublin, where she alleged she had suffered injuries falling from a swing in the bar in July 2015.
