Leo Varadkar reveals earliest hinted date for return back to offices

Leo Varadkar has revealed an earlier hinted date for a return back to offices for workers.

The Tanaiste is reportedly urging a comeback for workers in August which would see them come back a month earlier than planned.

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment is hoping that people can have a return to normality before schools and colleges resume in September.

He said: "At the moment, we are planning a phased return to offices and workplaces from September.

“Provided the vaccine programme continues to gather pace and the virus remains under control, I believe August makes more sense than September.”

It was celebrations all around Dublin yesterday as the capital's pubs, restaurants and cinemas reopened to the public for the first time in 2021.

As the sun shone down with 20C temperatures many took to the streets of Dublin city centre and its towns and villages to make the most of the Bank Holiday Monday.

After a very worrying week of civil unrest on the capital's streets it was a very different picture along South William Street, Temple Bar and Grafton Street as the good spirits rose to the occasion.

And eager cinemagoers also got to return to watch a flick or two with some of that buttery popcorn and drinks that you can only get at the big screen.

Al and Lar spoke to Dublin Live at the Two Sisters pub in Terenure today, and described the first proper pint in months as "magnificent".

Lar said: "It's fabulous to get out and see a few people and meet a few people. I missed the company and the comraderie from coming out here."

While Al added: "Even if it was raining, it wouldn't matter. It's been that long since I had a pint!"

And Lar joked: "We wouldn't need a poncho, we'd just come down anyway!"
