Leo Varadkar has refused to rule out the Dáil not returning next week which sets the scene for a General Election in February.
The Taoiseach is meeting Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin at a secret location in Dublin tonight f
But there is growing speculation this evening that Leo may have already made his mind up and wants to call an election this weekend.
Following a special Cabinet meeting on disability issues, Mr Varadkar faced the press where he was bombarded with questions about the election.
He was asked numerous times - including by the Irish Mirror - if he could commit to the Dáil returning next week, and he couldn’t.
He was also asked if he would rule out calling a dissolution of the Dáil this weekend, as is his right as Taoiseach, and he wouldn’t.
Mr Varadkar said: “I can’t predict the outcome of the conversation with the leader of Fianna Fáil tonight.”
He added: “The Cabinet is due to meet on Tuesday, the Dáil will reconvene on Wednesday and that is the position, until such time as it may change.”
Most political sources say that time is imminent.
But the Taoiseach also kept his options open by saying that he still believes he has the numbers in the Dáil to keep things going past this week if Fianna Fáil keep upholding the Confidence and Supply Agreement.
Not many others agree with him.
He said: “It is the case that if Fianna Fáil continue to abstain that the Government can continue.
“We have I believe sufficient votes to get our legislative programme through.”
