Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has said he misses nightlife and hopes he isn’t “too old” to go to a nightclub once they reopen.
Mr Varadkar was reacting to Fianna Fáil Senator Shane Cassells in the Seanad on Friday, who joked that perhaps the Tanaiste will buy jagerbombs for Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Minister Eamon Ryan and Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald at Copper Face Jacks nightclub in Dublin.
Mr Cassells acknowledged the Irish Mirror’s front page on Thursday, in which the Tanaiste and Taoiseach joked about the reopening of the club.
Speaking to Mr Varadkar in the Seanad, Mr Cassells said: “If we do get there this summer I hope that you’ll bring Micheál and Eamon and Mary Lou and most importantly that you’ll be generous at the bar.
"Sure maybe there’ll be jagerbombs all around when you open your wallet and we look forward to that.”
Following the Taoiseach’s State of the Nation address on Thursday, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar joked to the Taoiseach that they might get back to the infamous club some day.
Mr Martin said: “I don’t think I’ll make it to Coppers anytime soon.”
To which Mr Varadkar said: “Coppers have an outdoor area and a nice balcony so you never know Taoiseach, we might get there yet.”
