Leo Varadkar on the hunt for Garth Brooks tickets as Tanaiste 'sure they'll be available online'

Leo Varadkar is on the hunt for Garth Brooks tickets.

The Tanaiste is a well-known music fan and has been pictured enjoying big nights at concerts from pop superstars such as Cher and Kylie Minogue.

But now he looks set to warble out the words to some famous Garth Brooks numbers, such as Friends In Low Places, after he admitted he wants to go to one of the Croke Park shows rumoured to be happening this time next year.

And he has pledged the support of the Government in bringing the country legend back to Ireland too, after we missed out when a series of gigs were cancelled back in 2014.

Mr Varadkar told reporters at the end of the Fine Gael pre-Dail think-in in Trim on Tuesday afternoon that he is looking forward to Garth Crooks coming to town when it’s confirmed.

He said: “I heard the news and I heard rumours about it in the last couple of days whether Garth Brooks is coming to Ireland next year.

“They were the concerts that never happened (in 2014) and I think it really would be great if they did go ahead.

“Obviously we’ll have to talk to the promoters, talk to Croke Park, listen to the residents in the area too, but I think it would be great if we could see those events go ahead.”

And when the Irish Mirror pressed him on whether he would like to get a ticket himself, he answered back enthusiastically: “Absolutely, yeah….. I hope so…. I’m sure they’ll be available online.”

Mr Varadkar’s love of music recently got him in trouble when he was pictured attending the Mighty Hoopla music festival in the UK while the same scale of concerts here were still banned.

In fact, just a couple of days before he travelled to the UK for the concert, featuring artists such as Whigfield of Saturday Night fame, he told the public here we should not follow the UK’s example.
