Leo Varadkar jokes about Richard Bruton's 'beach bod' as he launches staycation scheme

Leo Varadkar has joked about Richard Bruton's impressive "beach bod" which is the talk of the internet this morning.

Fine Gael TD Bruton was at the forefront of a staycation scheme ad for Howth where he caught the attention with his ripped physique.

Twitter users including the Tanaiste praised the 67-year-old for his amazing shape.

Mr Varadkar tweeted: "Don’t let Richard’s beach bod put you off availing of the Government’s Stay and Spend initiative this autumn!"

Actor Rory Cowan added: "He’s in great shape isn’t he? For a man of 67 he’s a great example that you don’t have to be young to be fit and toned. He’s the Mick Jagger of politics."

While Rob Gardner coined a new nickname for the politician, Richard "the rig" Bruton.

Mr Bruton was doing the video to promote Howth in Dublin for the Government's staycation scheme this August.

From October,  you will be able to benefit from the Stay and Spend Initiative to spend on your staycation, by being able to claim back some of costs of some of your meals.

Any taxpayer spending over €625 on accommodation, food and non-alcoholic drinks, between October 2020 and April 2021, will able to claim back €125 through a tax credit.
