Leo Varadkar issues major boost for holidays as he unveils new plan

Vaccine passports with QR codes have been prepared by the Government.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar revealed in the Dáil details of the new travel documents that will help open up the skies again for Irish travellers.

The move will also be a massive boost for the tourism sector here as it will pave the way for mutual arrangements with other countries to allow travel between green zones.

The Minister for Enterprise was talking about the viability of vaccine passports to get travel back up and running.

Mr Varadkar said: “I see the advantage in people being able to prove that they’ve had the vaccine and/or that they’ve tested negative.

“I know that we have an immunisation document ready that people will get with a QR code on it to show that they have been immunised.

“And I know in other countries, like Israel for example, they’re using that to say that if you have it you don’t have to self-isolate and the same applies to travel, opening now between Cyprus and Greece, but we’re just not at that point yet in Europe, we’re just not.

“The science doesn’t yet say that being vaccinated is enough to say that you don’t get the virus and pass it on, but I do hope that we will get there.”
