Leo Varadkar admits that he watches Love Island and is a big fan of Maura Higgins

Maura Higgins has earned a lot of fans since entering the Love Island villa and now it appears that even Leo Varadkar is an admirer of the Longford lady.

The 28-year-old has been credited with bumping up the Love Island ratings due to her entertaining personality and antics.

And the Taoiseach says he believes that Maura has an 'interesting turn of phrase' and admits that he 'likes' the Ballymahon woman.

Speaking in Maura's home county of Longford on Friday, Leo Varadkar said: "I occasionally watch Love Island, not for long."

Mr Varadkar was then asked about Irish star Maura Higgins and was asked if she represented Ireland well.

The Taoiseach said: "I have to say I really like her, no I only watched snippets.

"Personally, I like her but it's a matter of personal opinion."

He added: "She has an interesting turn of phrase."

Meanwhile, bookmakers have slashed the odds for Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard to win this year's Love Island.

A major twist is on the cards after a clip of the Longford woman admitting she fancies the professional ballroom dancer was played at the end of Thursday's episode.

The teaser sent fans into a frenzy and now one bookmaker has made the unlikely couple the fourth favourite pairing to claim the prize of €50,000.

Boylesports was offering 66/1 for Maura and Curtis to win earlier on Friday, but now Ladbrokes has priced the odds at just 25/1.
