Leo Hjelde set for Celtic exit as Leeds 'confident' of transfer before deadline

Celtic look set to lose talented youngster Leo Hjelde to Leeds United before the transfer window closes.

The Norwegian youngster has made a splash in the Celtic academy since joining from Rosenborg in 2019.

He held his own at senior level in the second half of last season as he was a regular in the Ross County side while on loan in Dingwall.

He had been tipped for a big future at Parkhead but Ange Postecoglou has decided not to use him, while fellow academy stars Stephen Welsh and Adam Montgomery have played major roles.

That's partially because he has been in talks over a move to Leeds for weeks, and The Athletic's Phil Hay reports that the deal will be done before the summer transfer window closes.

The 17-year-old will likely go into Leeds' B side in Premier League 2.

Hjelde is a versatile talent, capable of playing at left-back or at the heart of defence.

He played both roles for County throughout his 12 Premiership appearances last season and appears to have done enough to convince Leeds to pull the trigger.
