Leo Boland meets his team

The GLA's new chief executive addressed his troops yesterday. Not all were enthused. I'm told that Boland cheered everyone up by referring ominously to news of Marks and Spencer planning to sack a thousand people, spoke of austerity and frugality and anticipated City Hall becoming a "much diminished place." He described his prior impression of the body as "patchy" and stressed his dislike of "rogue apostrophes." The latter point was not made in a light-hearted fashion. Happy days.
